From the Heart: Delfina Romero’s 28 Years of Service
For 28 years, Delfina Romero has been a constant and valued presence at the Quality Inn Gallup, exemplifying dedication, pride in her work, and genuine care for others.
Delfina began her career at the property in 1997, already confident in her role as a housekeeper. Reflecting on her early years, she shared, “I wasn’t nervous when I started because I already had experience being a housekeeper. I knew what I was doing.” From the beginning, Delfina enjoyed her work and felt respected by the owners, a feeling that has remained with her throughout her many years of service.
As Executive Housekeeper, Delfina places strong importance on communication and mutual respect within her team. “I liked working with my team because we have good communication,” she says. “They respect me, and I respect them.” Her leadership style has earned her the trust of those around her, with team members describing her as a good boss, dedicated, hardworking, reliable, and someone they enjoy working with.
One of Delfina’s most memorable moments at the hotel was a surprise birthday celebration organized by her General Managers — a gesture that made her feel appreciated and valued. Moments like these reflect the strong relationships she has built over the years.
Outside of work, Delfina enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren and caring for her farm animals. It’s no surprise that the same care she gives at home carries into her work life as well.
Delfina lives by the quote, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do,” a belief that clearly guides her career. When asked what advice she would give to others hoping to follow a similar path, she offered a simple but honest perspective: “Work is hard sometimes. You have your good days and your bad days. The only thing you can do is move forward and start another day happily. You must enjoy your job to be able to be here for 25 years — or in my case, 28.”
In 2025, Delfina’s commitment and long-standing service were recognized when she received the New Mexico Hospitality Association TopHAT Award for Back of House Employee of the Year, a well-earned honor reflecting her dedication and character.
